Why do you have a budget limit for the Standard and Student Editions?
We believe that with all the features Gorilla has to offer, the Pro Edition is an excellent value for the independent or low-budget filmmaker. But we wanted to take it a step further and offer all the rich values and features of Gorilla to first-time and/or student filmmakers, too. That’s why we came up with two more options to choose from: the Standard Edition and the Student Edition.

How do I upgrade from Standard or Student to Pro?
Upgrading to Pro from Standard or Student is incredibly easy. Upon purchase of your upgrade, you will receive a Pro activation key. Simply go to the Upgrades option in the Main Menu and enter your new key. All of your information is kept intact and your version of Gorilla is upgraded instantly.

Can I use Gorilla on my Macintosh and my Windows computer?
As long as you adhere to our License Agreement which is a per user license – allowing you to install Gorilla on more than one computer for one person's use only - you can use Gorilla on both platforms. Please consult your user guide.

How do I activate my software?
Upon purchase of the software, depending on how you received it, you will receive a box code on a yellow card. By going to our website and clicking Register from the Support section, you can enter your code and receive a valid serial number for your software. If you purchased and downloaded the software from our online store (and provided us with a name and a company name) you will receive a serial number within a few minutes. If you purchased the software from one of our resellers on CD, then you need to register the software through our website using the code on the yellow card.

Why do I need to authorize my computer to use Gorilla?
It is common practice to use anti-piracy measures when selling software. In order for us to be able to continue to provide excellent products at reasonable prices it is essential that we protect our software. Per our license agreement, you are allowed to install Gorilla on a primary computer and on an alternate (home or portable) for your exclusive use. After entering your serial number, you will be prompted to authorize your computer to continue to use Gorilla. This is a simple process, especially if you are connected to the internet. You can always de-authorize your computer, freeing up a seat to be used on another computer. If you want more licenses, you can upgrade to a Producer Pack or a Crew Pack.

What is the difference between the download version and the boxed version?
When you download Gorilla from our online store you get the software immediately. You specify the platform you wish to receive (OS X or Windows XP). Shortly after purchase (usually within a few minutes), you will receive a serial number via email that will enable you to use the software.
When you purchase a boxed version, you will receive the software on CD. The CD contains both the Macintosh and the Windows version. You will then have to visit our website to register the software and receive your serial number. With both versions all the manuals and tutorials are online. There is no printed manual included with the boxed version.

Can I import scenes and characters from Final Draft and Movie Magic Screenwriter?
Yes! As of Gorilla version 2.0, importing breakdown sheet information from Final Draft and Movie Magic Screenwriter is a snap.

* Elements such as props and wardrobe only imported from MM Screenwriter and Final Draft 7 with Tagger if tagged as such in that program.

Does the budgeting module support fringes?
Yes. The Budgeting module allows you to create “Fringe Categories” and attach fringes to those categories. You can then assign a Fringe Category to a detail line item and all those fringes are applied to that detail line item. You can click the “Allow Fringes” button and see what that line item would be with or without the fringes attached.

Does the budgeting module support globals?
Yes, and you can create as many globals as you want. You then assign those global values to a line item, such as “Salary 1” or “Salary 2”. You can then go back and adjust those global values to a higher or a lower amount and your entire budget will reflect those changes.

Can I export my Budget to Excel?
Yes. Gorilla has an export function that allows you to export category, accounts and detail line items to a tab-separated text format for importing into programs such as Excel.

What is the Distribution of Profits Module?
The Distribution of Profits module is a great (and very fun) way to figure out what to do with all that money your film makes. It enables you to create “what-if” analyses with different scenarios for potential investors and even assign points to cast and crew members.

Can I re-use actors and crew members for multiple projects?
Yes! This is one of the great features of Gorilla – the ability to enter an actor profile into the Actors module only once, and then to attach that actor to either one project, multiple projects, or multiple characters in one project. You can do the same for crew members. This is essential for low-budget productions. For example, you can have a crew member act as a Producer on one project and a Production Manager on another. You can even have a crew member assigned to multiple positions within the same project.

How does the Locations module work?
The Location module helps you organize all your locations for your project. Enter crucial information, like contact info, cost of location and address. You can import a photo of your location and a map and then print it out and hand it to your crew. After you enter your breakdown sheets and have attached locations to each sheet, you can print out a Location/Scene Report to see how many scenes will be shot at each location. Similarly, you can re-use locations for multiple projects so you don’t have to re-enter the information all over again.

What kind of reports does Gorilla run?
Gorilla has over 80 reports throughout all the modules. View a list of Gorilla's Reports.

Why do I need security?
If you are the only person using Gorilla, then you only need to create one level of security, Executive Producer. As Executive Producer you have access to all areas of the program. However, if multiple people will be using different parts of the program (i.e. Budgeting module, Scheduling module, Casting module, etc.), you might want to restrict some users from gaining full access to the entire program. It’s entirely up to you.

Where can I find help, user manuals, etc.?
"The Gorilla Guide," a comprehensive, 182-page manual that walks you through all of Gorilla's modules, is available in Adobe PDF format from our Downloads page.

Also available is "Independent Filmmaking Using Gorilla," a 2 1/2 hour DVD tutorial based on our popular live user seminars. For more information, please visit the DVD Tutorial page.

And for the latest answers to your technical questions, you can check out the online Gorilla Knowledgebase.

What about the competition?
We tell people we don’t really have competition. We provide a product that not only has budgeting and scheduling, but ties them in with 7 other modules critical to the success of running a smooth production. No other software program contains as many features in one integrated product. See how Gorilla compares.

Do you offer any discounts to schools and universities?
Yes we do. If you are a representative, professor, teacher or administrator of a school or university and intend to use Gorilla in a classroom environment, we offer significant discounts. Please contact Jungle Software directly for more information.

What about site licenses or volume pricing?
Each copy of Gorilla sold is a "per-user license" intended for use only by the customer who purchased it. If you or your company/organization wish to use Gorilla on multiple computers for multiple users, we can provide you with a site license. Please contact Jungle Software directly for more information.

How do you handle updates/upgrades?
All minor updates (fixes and small feature additions) are free to all registered users. Major revisions of Gorilla are available at a reduced or "upgrade" price to all registered users.

What are the Producer and Crew Packs?
We know that sometimes you need more than 1 person working on scheduling and budgeting and everything else that Gorilla offers. This is why we created the Producer Pack and the Crew Pack. The Producer Pack is ideal for a 2-person production team, allowing 2 users to install Gorilla on up to 4 machines for their use only. The Crew Pack allows for up to 5 users to install Gorilla on up to 5 machines. Read more about Gorilla's Producer Pack and Crew Pack.

I hate reading manuals. How else can I learn Gorilla?
We offer seminars every month in major cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Boston, Chicago and others. You can also check out the Gorilla Knowledgebase, an online resource that can answer many of your questions.

Can I import my budget from Movie Magic Budgeting?
Yes, you can import a Movie Magic Budget file as a template. Category and Account Title items will import, but detail line items and numbers will not.
